Janet Jackson – If (All Dance Version)
”If” is a song by Janet Jackson from her fifth studio album, janet. (1993). Written and produced by Janet Jackson, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, it was released as the album’s second single in July 1993, and became Jackson’s second top five hit from the janet. album. The song’s video, directed by Dominic Sena in June 1993, challenged notions of culture and sexuality in a highly stylised and imaginative presentation with a theme of voyeurism. The video is set in an exclusive club in Asia, where entrance can only be gained via the password “if.” Inside the club, Janet performs suggestively with dancers amongst androgynous and polysexual characters. The video won the 1994 MTV Video Music Award for Best Female Video. That same year it also won a Billboard Music Award for Dance Clip of the Year. Parts of the video were edited out for general release.

A bona fide disco hit that spent four weeks at #1 on the BIllboard Disco Action Chart in 1975. Sylvia Robinson ex of Mickey & Sylvia (Love Is Strange) produced this one. Donnie Elbert was working with the producers of this song in 1974, and Shirley’s vocalizations resembled his earlier hit “A Little Piece Of Leather”. He went and recorded “You’re Gonna Cry When I’m Gone” in the UK that had the same melody as “Shame”. In order to settle the dispute, All Platinum bought out the master.

The original 1982 version of the video for “Red Skies” by The Fixx from their first CD “Shuttered Room”. The video aired for 11 weeks on MTV ultimately reaching heavy rotation. The single peaked at #101 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart (bubbling under).
