American Hairbands 80’s Metal and Rock Bands

Glam metal (also known as hair metal[1]) is a term used to describe the visual style or fashion of certain heavy metal music bands that arose in the late 1970s and early 1980s in the United States, particularly on the Los Angeles Sunset Strip music scene. It was popular throughout the 1980s and briefly in the early 1990s, combining the flamboyant look of glam rock and playing a power-chord based hard rock musical style. “Hair bands” was the term popularized by MTV in the 1990s and derives from the tendency among most such bands to style their long hair in a teased-up fashion The glam metal visual style was heavily influenced by 1970s glam rock acts, with most bands sounding like 1970s/1980s hard rock bands such as Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Queen, Kiss, New York Dolls, Sweet, Slade, Mott the Hoople, T.Rex, Gary Glitter, and others. The very first band of the 1980s to truly travel down the make-up and gaudy clothing route was Finland rock group Hanoi Rocks. They were credited as influences by countless bands, as Hanoi Rocks followed the template laid down by hard rock bands of the 1970s and stuck to the make up and garishness of the New York Dolls. In the United States, many fans credited that the movement on the Sunset Strip was kick-started largely by Mötley Crüe and Nikki Sixx’s former band London after the earliest years when they started as a glam rock band. Others assert that it was kick-started by Quiet Riot’s Metal Health album when it reached #1 in the Billboard

You Rock My World – Michael Jackson , Usher & Chris Tucker

MADALIN Games: sites.google.com The song peaked at #10 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Jackson’s last top ten hit in the United States. It was nominated for aGrammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the 44th Grammy Awards. The song is considered Jackson’s last hit before his death. A comedic spoken intro was recorded by Chris Tucker and Jackson, which involves Tucker and Jackson discussing their attraction to a particular woman, and the two arguing about whether or not Jackson can “pick her up”. In the music video, a majority of Tucker’s dialogue is composed of references to Jackson’s past singles, eg when the two have reached the club in pursuit of Jackson’s love interest, Tucker is suddenly nonsupporting of Jackson’s goal and asks that they “beat it”, stating he has a “bad” feeling, suggesting that the girl is “dangerous”. While Tucker and Jackson are eating at the beginning of the video, Tucker notes that the girl is a “pretty young thing” and states that “the girl is mine”, precipitating a competition between him and Michael to see who will get the girl. The music video for “You Rock My World” was premiered in Europe, Asia, and South Africa on September 21, 2001. In wake of theSeptember 11, 2001 attacks in the US, the premiere was delayed there until September 26. You Rock My World – Michael Jackson , Usher & Chris Tucker

Rob Grill – Rock Sugar (1979)

One of the most listened to voices on radio from the mid 1960s through the early 1970s belongs to The Grass Roots lead vocalist, Rob Grill. Now, nearly 30 years later, one of the most recognized voices on Classic Rock stations (one of the strongest formats in radio today) continues to be that of Rob Grill. During all that time, Rob Grill and The Grass Roots have averaged over 100 live performances each year. Rob is a native of Hollywood, California where he attended Hollywood High School. Soon after graduation, Rob began working at American Recording Studios with some of his musician friends; Cory Wells and John Kay who later formed 3 Dog Night Steppenwolf, respectively. Convinced to start his own band, Rob and 3 others formed The Grass Roots. Teaming up with mega-hit producer Steve Barri (The Mamas & The Papas, Tommy Roe, Four Tops and Dusty Springfield), The Grass Roots went on to chart 29 singles; 13 of which went gold followed by 2 gold albums and 1 platinum album. Their CD, The Grass Roots Anthology on Rhino Records, was released in 1993 and remains a strong seller today. Here are some impressive facts about The Grass Roots: 1. In the entire history of Rock n Roll, only 9 bands (including The Beatles) have charted more hits on Billboards Hot 100 than The Grass Roots. 2. The Grass Roots have appeared on over 50 national television shows including, The Tonight Show, The Today Show, Ed Sullivan, Andy Williams, Sonny & Cher, Good Morning America, VH1 Hit-Makers, MTV, and
