”What Is Love” is a 1993 dance track by the singer Haddaway, popular with club DJs. Recorded in the early ’90s, it later experienced a revival as the song from the Saturday Night Live “Roxbury Guys” sketches, which were later made into the 1998 feature film A Night at the Roxbury. The song was also featured as the background music for the previous night’s NBA highlights on NBC’s NBA Showtime in the mid-to-late ’90s. The music video featured clips from Metropolis. Since 1994, it has been played prior to the opening pitch of every Tulane Green Wave home baseball game. Brownstone was a Grammy Award-nominated female contemporary R&B group, popular during the mid-1990s that has began a revival in 2007. It is best known for its 1995 hit single “If You Love Me.” The group also had some success with the singles “Grapevyne,” “Pass the Lovin’,” and “I Can’t Tell You Why,” the latter of which a song originally recorded by the Eagles. The three original members of Brownstone were Monica “Mimi” Doby , Charmayne “Maxee” Maxwell and Nichole “Nicci” Gilbert. The group was founded in Los Angeles, California, after the three singers met each other after going to different auditions around the city. They formed the group, and less than a year later were signed to Michael Jackson’s MJJ Music record label.
