Frequent touring for Rated R generated support for the band which grew when Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl joined in late 2001/early 2002 to record their third album. Songs for the Deaf was released in August, again featuring Mark Lanegan. Although Songs for the Deaf gained major attention, Grohl returned to his other projects and was replaced on the European leg of the album’s supporting tour by former Danzig drummer Joey Castillo, who joined the band full time. Songs for the Deaf was a critical and commercial success and its popularity peaked when the album reached gold status in 2003, with sales peaking at over 900000 copies. The singles “No One Knows” and “Go with the Flow” became hits on radio and MTV, with the former voted Triple J radio’s number 1 song and peaking just outside of the Billboard Top 40. Constant touring continued, culminating in a string of headline dates in Australia in January 2004, after which Oliveri was fired from the band by Homme for what was said to be disrespect of the group’s fans and excessive partying. ”You’re Still the One” is a Grammy Award winning song by Canadian singer Shania Twain. Released in 1998, the single peaked at number two becoming Twain’s first top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Although it never topped the chart, the song is recognized as Twain’s most successful crossover single, and is one of her most successful singles at country radio. The song was written by Twain and Mutt Lange and produced by Lange. “You’re Still the One” was nominated for four Grammy Awards in 1999, winning two. It won Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance and lost Record of the Year and Song of the Year to Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On”. The song listed at number 66 on the Billboard: All-Time Hot 100 Top Songs. Song information When Twain and Lange had become romantically involved in the mid 1990s, there was criticism of their relationship: claims that the age difference was extreme, and that Twain was solely using him to further her career. In essence, the critics did not expect their relationship to last. Twain disagreed with these criticisms and wanted to address them in public and this led to her writing “You’re Still the One”. In this ode to the union between her and Lange, Twain explains how she is glad they did not listen to the critics, as if they had done, look at what they could have been …
